Steven Armstrong's nanotech-infused heart: the source of his nanomachines.
Senator Steven Armstrong's Nanomachine Heart is a powerful tool in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. It's the source of Armstrong's nanomachines, and by extension, his superhuman abilities.
Powers and Abilities[]
The heart creates and supplies nanomachines throughout Armstrong's body. These nanomachines would harden different parts of his skin in response to physical trauma, with the side-effect of turning the affected areas black, with some splotches of red on the outer edges. The resulting change rendered Armstrong completely immune to blunt force trauma and nigh-immunity to explosive weapons. The nanomachines also have healing properties similar to (but faster than) standard repair units, to the point of reattaching lost limbs in the event of having them severed. Armstrong could also charge his nanomachines by absorbing energy from vehicles including: Metal Gears, Hammerheads, APCs and other sources of energy. This charge can also be used to repair damage done to his body by absorbing metal dust. His movement is also increased, allowing him to dash towards enemies at immeasurable speeds.
The nanomachines also allow him to release powerful pyrokinetic energy attacks (similar to Raiden's ability to generate lightning) by channeling his stored energy into his limbs or different areas of his body. These energy attacks include:
- charging his fist with energy to hit harder,
- punching the ground to cause "fire" walls,
- homing projectiles or exploding fissures,
The nanomachines also give Armstrong access to a stronger form, and in this state, he has a crimson-red aura, is a lot stronger, a lot faster and gains the ability to charge towards his enemies multiple consecutive times while covered in an aura of pyrokinetic energy.
Weaknessess[]
While the nanomachines provided by the heart can make its user powerful, there are a few key weaknessess. First, and most notably, the nanomachines seemed to be incapable of reacting to sudden or rapid forms of damage. Sufficiently powerful physical forces, such as attacks from the Murasama HF Blade, will force the nanomachines to converge and localize their energy into the targeted area of the body. Another weakness is that the nanomachines spread out from his heart, so it's possible to outpace the response time of the nanomachines and cut Armstrong before he can harden. Finally, the nanomachines in Armstrong can run out of power, meaning that if there are no energy sources nearby along with him fighting an opponent who can outlast his onslaught, he would be rendered helpless.
