Urban ruins were the remains of buildings that were damaged during fighting, located within the Middle Eastern city that was host to Liquid Ocelot's PMC activities.

After meeting with Drebin 893, Solid Snake travelled through some urban ruins while attempting to rendezvous with Rat Patrol 01. As he passed though the settling rubble of a fallen apartment building, the unstable structure gave way several times. Several local militiamen took cover in the ruins, but were shot by the Praying Mantis forces from above while they attempted to snipe PMC soldiers below them. At least one soldier also acted as a suicide bomber when another soldier approached him, killing both in the process. After navigating the heavily damaged building, Snake attempted to hide from a militia soldier behind a wall, leading to the downtown area, but a member of Rat Patrol unwittingly distracted him and was chased away.

Behind the scenes

Urban Ruins appears in Act 1, Liquid Sun, of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The collapsed building is the one destroyed by the Slider drones in Red Zone.
