Isn't this weapon just called "Patriot?" It's only called "the" Patriot because there's only one, so it can't be "a" Patriot. Evil Tim 12:37, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Funnily enough, Big Boss actually refers to it as "a Patriot" when The Boss gives it to him. You are right, though I don't see how it matters too much, as long as people can find the page easily enough. --Fantomas 13:16, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

There are other weapons with the name "Patriot", so we use the "the" surname as the legendary weapon the Boss used. --L1QU1D 5N4KE 22 14:07, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

M231 Firing Port Weapon[]

According to IMFDB, the bullet tumbling phenomenom is not an error caused by misread information, but rather a true issue of the real M231. It seems that since this weapon has almost no rifling and a really high firing rate, it doesn't let the bullets to stabilize properly, leading to the mentioned effect.

That doesn't explain the impossibility of one projectile actually exiting the barrel backwards, though. So Konami still greatly exaggerated the ballistics here. Ghost Leader (talk) 16:14, December 8, 2015 (UTC)

The Patriot in Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2[]

It may be possible that the gun that Big Boss used against Solid Snake in both Metal Gear 1 and 2 was this one. If I am wrong, please provide a link (just real evidence) where Kojima or someone involved in the series states that the Patriot wasn't Big Boss gun in the said games. Thanks. There is no evidence for or against, though it's a common fan theory. --Bluerock 08:38, November 22, 2011 (UTC)

Not an M321[]

The M321 is much larger, and has a different handguard shape. It's probably based on the Rocky Mountain Arms Patriot, produced in the mid-1990s.
