The article is incorrect.
The Mercenary War WAS Zanzibar Land's War of Independence. It was called this because of the number of mercenaries from all over the world who participated in the conflict, and were given primary credit for winning the war, thus acheiving independence for ZL in 1997.
The period of time in which ZL starts invading it neighbors and aquiring nukes (1997-1999) is part of the ZL Uprising.
Most of the info on the Mercenary War is already contained in the article on ZL (the country). Therefore I don't think this article is necessary. so it should probably be deleted. -- Bluerock 20:00, November 10, 2009 (UTC)
- Is this from the MSX2 Manual? I always got the impression that the Mercenary War was Zanzibarland declaring it's independence and that the war continued on until the events of MG2. --Fantomas 21:42, November 10, 2009 (UTC)
- Both the MSX2 manual and the 'Previous Operations' files, in Metal Gear Solid both say that they won their independence (1997) because of the mercenarys that participated in the Mercenary War. Since the ZL War of Independence was won, and therefore over, I would have assumed this is true of the Mercenary War, since they are the same thing. In other words, the Mercenary War ended in 1997, once independence was gained, and did not start in this year. From then on, it was the Zanzibar Land Uprising that began, with ZL moving beyond it borders. I can understand the confusion, as mercenaries were likely to have assisted in this also, but this should not be considered "The Mercenary War" in my opinion. What are your thoughts? -- Bluerock 22:23, November 10, 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, that makes sense. I'll leave the editing of the article to you since you seem to have a much clearer grasp on this than I do. --Fantomas 22:30, November 10, 2009 (UTC)
