Would anyone like to explain why

A) This article even exists.
B) Why the "references" section is longer than the article itself?

Both this page and Sokolov Defection don't need to be their own articles. The events should be recapped as part of the individual articles for the Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater. The reason we made Key Events pages in the first place was to have pages that specifically dealt with recapping the games, so adding in anything outside of that defeats the purpose. --Fantomas (talk) 22:14, September 9, 2015 (UTC)

Well, it was a key event in the franchise, at least during the Big Boss games, with each event in that segment of the franchise (MGS3, MPO, PW, and to some extent MGSV) being tied in some way or another to that event. Besides, if the Cold War can get its own article due to it being a fairly major plot point, this can as well. In hindsight, though, maybe the Sokolov Defection should just be merged into Virtuous Mission, and maybe we can reduce the sources to the segments that are most directly cited. The fact that the Cold War article specifically talks about the Cuban Missile Crisis makes this article even more of a weird issue. I'm okay with the Cold War article (although, like every other article here, it's way too damn long) because it just talks about the Cold War and how the games factored into it. The key events pages were created in the first place because we wanted to have specific pages that focused on each games plot, which the Cuban Missile Crisis is not. It doesn't help that the bulk of the article (the Aftermath section) delves into info from the later games which should be reserved for the articles on those games. It's just bulk. It doesn't need to exist. --Fantomas (talk) 22:27, September 9, 2015 (UTC)
Fair enough, though those sources still need to be placed somewhere. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 22:30, September 9, 2015 (UTC)
