The Supercomputer was the main control system for the Metal Gear weapon developed by Dr. Pettrovich in Outer Heaven.[1]
History[]
Outer Heaven Uprising[]
- Main article: Outer Heaven Uprising
During the Outer Heaven Uprising, Dr. Pettrovich was forced to develop Metal Gear by Outer Heaven after his daughter Ellen was taken hostage.[2] Following Ellen's rescue by FOXHOUND operative Solid Snake, a grateful Pettrovich revealed that Metal Gear was located in sub-basement 100 of Building #3, telling Snake to destroy the Supercomputer that controlled it with plastic explosives.[3][1] After defeating the four soldiers that guarded it, Snake ultimately destroyed the Supercomputer and eliminated the threat of Metal Gear.
Behind the scenes[]
The Supercomputer appears in the Nintendo Entertainment System version of Metal Gear, replacing the titular weapon as the penultimate boss in the game, due to hardware limitations.[4] Unlike the Metal Gear boss of the original game, there is no specific order in which to place the 16 plastic explosives on the Supercomputer, making it less difficult to beat.[1][5] To compensate for this, due to the original game specifying the order only after saving Ellen, the game's programming makes it completely immune to damage if the player tries to take it out before rescuing her. The fact that Metal Gear's functions are all controlled by the Supercomputer indicates that it was an unmanned weapon in the NES version.
The Supercomputer later appeared 31 years after its debut appearance in the key artwork for the Metal Gear Original NES Video Game Soundtrack, also marking the first time it was given artwork.

Dr. Drago Pettrovich Madnar: I am Dr. Drago Pettrovich Madnar. Metal Gear is 20km north of this building. It's located 100 floors under Building 3. There is only one way to destroy Metal Gear. Attach plastic explosives to the legs of the unit where the armor is thin. The sequence is R-R-L-R-L-L-R-L-L-R-R-L-R-L-R... after that I don't remember. You have to attach 16 sets. The card that gets you out of Building 2 is with Bloody Brad. He's vulnerable to attacks from a rocket launcher. Good luck...
