The Remington 700 is a model of hunting rifle that was later modified to become a sniper rifle within both the military and the law enforcement sectors.

The Model 700 was introduced by Remington in 1962. It came in a various amount of stock, barrel, and caliber configurations. It has enjoyed extreme popularity ever since as a hunting rifle and has also been adapted for military use. The U.S. Army M24 and U.S. Marine M40 sniper rifles are both military variants of the Remington 700.

Peace Walker Incident[]

During the Peace Walker Incident in 1974, Big Boss and his Militaires Sans Frontières mercenary group managed to procure design specs for the M700 after an intelligence gathering mission at the Mine Base. The MSF R&D team later managed to modify it by making it into a bull barrel type. They later managed to procure design specs for a variant that utilized "LIFE Recovery Rounds" as ammo after defending areas within Aldea de los Despiertos. The Ghillie variety of scouts within the Peace Sentinel also utilized the M700.
