Pooyan (プーヤン Pooyan?) is a fixed-shooter arcade and platform game released by Konami in 1982, with Stern Electronics manufacturing the game in North America. It deals with a mother pig trying to rescue her piglets from ravenous wolves utilizing balloons via a bow and arrow.
Relationship to Metal Gear[]
A set of Extra Ops missions in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker were called Pooyan missions in reference to the arcade game of the same name (although in-universe, they were named by MSF subcommander Kazuhira Miller due to the Fulton surface-to-air recovery system balloons reminding him of his neighbors' pet pig Pooyan). Like in the namesake game, the player has to shoot down Fulton balloons that were extracting enemy soldiers. The soundtrack likewise was taken directly from the arcade game.
