Mountain Dew (also stylised as MTN Dew) is a brand of soft drink owned by the American company PepsiCo, originating from the USA. Originally created in 1940 in Tennessee by bottlers Moses and Ally Hartman, it was revised by Bill Bridgeworth in 1958, with its contract being purchased by Tip, and undergoing further revisions to the formula in 1961 by William H. "Bill" Jones. It was eventually sold to the Pepsi company by 1964 and sold throughout America and Canada, and later to Japan by the 1980s. The product was popular worldwide as a result of its introduction especially among young people, largely due to its distinct citrus flavor via quenching thirst when drunken in gulps and consequentially providing a pleasant sensation. The brand name overall reflected the drink's refreshing taste.
Relation to the Metal Gear series[]

Mountain Dew branded soldiers and item, as seen in Peace Walker.
Mountain Dew, alongside AXE Body Spray, Doritos, fellow PepsiCo-brand Pepsi NEX, Bon Curry, and magazines from Weekly Famitsu, Dengeki PlayStation, Dengeki Games, and Weekly Shōnen Magazine were included in the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker as a joke on product placement.[1] In the international versions of the game, Mountain Dew was replaced by lime soda (although it wasn't a 1:1 analogue since Mountain Dew was a citrus-based drink, while, as implied by the name, its replacement lime soda was a Lemon/Lime-flavored drink). In addition to being replaced, supplemental promotional materials such as a DLC t-shirt advertising Mountain Dew (unlocked via a passcode, included with special promo cans of Mountain Dew distributed in Japan, featuring the likenesses of various Peace Walker characters) and a briefing file covering Mountain Dew were cut from subsequent non-Japanese versions of Peace Walker altogether, presumably for the same reason why Mountain Dew itself was replaced. The model viewer references the first-revision of the formula for the drink, dating from 1958.
