A long-range reconnaissance patrol, or LRRP is a small, heavily armed long-range reconnaissance team that patrols deep in enemy-held territory.

Soviet Army

LRRPs of the Soviet Guards Airborne Regiment operated in Northern Kabul, Afghanistan, during the Soviet-Afghan War.

United States Armed Forces

During the Vietnam War, the U.S. Army and Marines formed various LRRP units. Marines Glaz and Palitz were members of an LRRP that operated in Laos,[1] while Big Boss joined one in Vietnam.[2]
