Kojima Productions is an independent Japanese video game development studio that was established in late 2015 following Hideo Kojima's exit from Konami.[1] The original Kojima Productions studio disbanded as development of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was wrapping up.[2]

The existence of the new company was announced on December 16, 2015, in conjunction with the news that they had signed a deal with Sony Computer Entertainment to developer a brand new game for the PlayStation 4.[1] On May 15, 2016, Kojima revealed that the character on the new Kojima Productions logo was called "Ludence."[3] It was later changed to "Ludens."[4]
