In 2014, Middle Eastern militiamen arrived by truck into the area to fight against the government-hired PMC, Praying Mantis. The militiamen were outmatched by the Praying Mantis troops and were gunned down, with one truck colliding with another parked truck, knocking the occupants overboard, due to the driver being sniped.
Solid Snake, sent to the Middle East to assassinate Liquid Ocelot, and disguised as one of the militia's instructors, attempted to assist by firing his weapon but the gun jammed due to poor quality ammunition. He was forced to head deeper into the area and away from the chaos. Snake was later pursued by various unmanned Gekko and hid from them using his new OctoCamo suit.
