Wanderers were former human being who became zombie-like creatures after infected by a metallic crystalline lifeforms, know as Dread Dust, that infested the parallel world of Dite.
Biography[]
The Wanderers were unfortunate victims of the Dread Dust, originally a type of advanced medical nanomachines, turning them into undead monstrosities in the distant future of the Earth after being ravaged by the Lord of Dust, a massive creature of size and strength who control the Dust like an hive-mind.
Eventually, the Lord of Dust began to generating wormholes and through them going back in time to start the process over, creating Wanderers in the process. The Wardenclyffe Section, through studies on the wormholes, was aware of the lifeform existence for decades.
The first sighting of the Wanderers on the Earth occurred in 1968, in a village to the north of South Vietnam, by a journalist accompanying American forces in the region. The Wanderers killed the journalist, who took photos of the creatures. The creatures spawn in a part of Vietnam where American forces were fighting and the Wardencliffe Section, who have acquired the photo of the journalist, send in a team, among the troops, to wipe them out. They have success, and the operation look like one of the massacre that occurred troughout the region.
In 1975, a wormhole unexpectedly opened up above the Mother Base, who was under attack, and the Section was finally able to obtain the coordinates of Dite. The Charon Corps was sent to investigate the parallel world and the Wanderers. Chloe Dubois, the squad leader of the team, recorded her observations on the creatures on a voice log. The Corps continued the research on the creatures (along with a defensive system), the Kuban energy and the parallel world as long as a series of factors (the betrayal of a team member, paranoia, the constant attacks of the Wanderers and the appearance of the Lord of Dust) did not exterminate the entire Charon Corps.[1]
Even after the death of the Lord of Dust, thanks to the intervention of the Captain and the other survivors, the Wanderers continue wandering through Dite.
Behind the scenes[]
The Wanderers (ワンダラー) are the principal enemies that appear in the spin-off game Metal Gear Survive. They share similar characteristic and behavior, and probably some character animations, of the Puppet Soldiers. They were designed by Silent Hill artist Masahiro Ito, who based the concept on the scaly-foot gastropod, a species of deep-sea hydrothermal-vent snail, with their body table scales being made of iron sulfide.[2]
