The communications base on the San Hieronymo Peninsula was a facility that housed most of the communications equipment for the secret Soviet missile base in the region. The base was located five kilometers southeast from the detention center.

Facilities

The main building, which was about two stories tall, was equipped with an antenna dish on the roof for transmissions via satellite. There was also six lockers and two beds inside. In addition to the main building, there was also a building that presumably acted as an armory or a warehouse of sorts, as well as various buildings nearby to the north and the east that are blocked off by a fence. Trenches were also dug in around the perimeter of the main facilities.

History

San Hieronymo Incident

Main article: San Hieronymo Incident

After escaping from imprisonment on the peninsula, during the San Hieronymo Incident, Naked Snake headed to the comm base in order to contact his former commander in FOX, Major Zero. Using an encrypted protocol to avoid the enemy listening in, he managed to make contact with his old comrades Para-Medic and Sigint. They informed him of Zero's imprisonment for supposed treason, and provided him with information regarding the situation on the peninsula. Snake later returned to the base to speak with Para-Medic, after ally Roy Campbell contracted malaria, and was given advice on how to deal with the disease, although he had to evade increased security in the area.
