Carlos Esmeralda, better known as Mariachi or El Mariachi, is a character who was cut during the development of Metal Gear Solid.

Hailing from Mexico, Mariachi was going to be part of Solid Snake's support group, where he would have served a similar role to that of George Kasler and Diane by supplying key details about the various renegade FOXHOUND members and any equipment they used, under the condition of singing a song first. He acted as the singer of a base camp and would not give any information unless he had his guitar out. Kojima gave some details about Mariachi in Edge's 86th issue, while concepts and storyboards relating to the character were included in World of Metal Gear Solid.
