Bloody Brad was the codename of the TX-11 model cyberoid developed by Dr. Drago Pettrovich Madnar.

History[]

Development[]

When Dr. Madnar was taken captive by Outer Heaven in 1995, he was forced to use his robotic technology to develop two cyberoid units. Equipped with an artificial intelligence capable of autonomous combat, the TX-11 was also covered in dense armor plating able to resist even assault rifle fire.[1]

Outer Heaven Uprising[]

During Operation Intrude N313, Solid Snake encountered the Bloody Brad units. Resistance member Diane told Snake to flee because she believed they were indestructible.[2] After Dr. Madnar told him that the units were vulnerable to attacks from a rocket launcher,[3] Snake was provided with a RPG-7V by undercover Resistance member Jennifer.[4] He then fought against and destroyed both Bloody Brad units.

Behind the scenes[]

Bloody Brad (ブラッディ・ブラッド Buraddi Buraddo?) was originally named Arnold (アーノルド Ānorudo?) in the MSX2 version of Metal Gear, a direct reference to actor Arnold Schwarzenegger for his role in The Terminator. The name is always used in singular form in-game.[2][3]

The Bloody Brad units are the only standard bosses who are not accompanied by the background music "Mercenaries" when encountered. Instead, the usual infiltration track "Theme of Tara" continues to play.

Although there are two Bloody Brad units in-game, only one Bloody Brad appears in artwork within the Japanese MSX2 manual and the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database.

The boss fight between Solid Snake and Bloody Brad is briefly shown during Liquid Ocelot's exposition of the war between Outer Heaven and the Patriots in Act 5 of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, shortly before the final battle with Liquid.
