Usage[]

Operation Snake Eater[]

During the Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater, Naked Snake's equipment contained a specialized battery developed by the CIA's Directorate of Science and Technology that ran on Snake's own bioelectricity. It could be maintained by physical activity, nutrition, and other objects, and thus was tied to his own stamina level. He also replaced batteries with ones found throughout the mission. It was developed by someone within the CIA's tech division, a person who was very eccentric, which led Para-Medic and Snake to speculate that the person might have been even more eccentric than even Major Zero.

During the San Hieronymo Incident, various electronic equipment, such as mine detectors, NVGs, and thermal goggles required batteries to operate. They could be recharged after arriving back at the resistance's truck. Some of the personnel within San Hieronymo also carried them.

Various equipment of the Militaires Sans Frontières, as well as its Stealth Gun, utilized batteries. They usually had a short lifespan, but modifications via the MSF's R&D Team gradually decreased the use of battery power for most of the equipment until it required virtually no battery power use to operate. During item capture missions, some of the crates that the team had to detonate and steal the contents also contained batteries in addition to rations and ammunition, although the batteries were automatically transferred back to Mother Base.

Guns of the Patriots Incident[]

The Metal Gear Mk. II and some of Solid Snake's equipment ran on batteries.

Behind the scenes[]

In Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, batteries are used to power the Metal Gear Mk. II and the Solid Eye; the battery will recharge if the two items are unequipped. Collected batteries increase the length of the battery's charge. One battery can be picked up during each mission briefing in the Nomad (by using the Mk. II), for a total of six batteries.
