In Metal Gear Solid 3, in order to survive and regain stamina, you must eat food. This article contains information about the arthropods in the game.

Cobalt Blue Tarantula[]

  • Ration Name: SPIDER
  • Initial Taste: Very Bad
  • Danger Level: Medium
  • Stamina Recovery: Minimum
  • Capture: Yes

The cobalt blue tarantula (Cyriopagopus lividus) is a poisonous spider with a highly potent venom, which contains glutamic acid. It is so small that it almost always goes unnoticed, but will easily bite if one gets too close. Though certainly insufficient to outright kill a human, a bite nonetheless results in severe muscle cramps and inflammation. They typically climb along walls near eye level, though will sometimes be found on the floor. It can first be found in Ponizovje West, and is last found in the Krasnogorje Mountaintop Ruins. It is also surprisingly common in Graniny Gorki, especially in dirty, damp and dark areas such as the cells and the bathrooms. Unlike using snakes to poison guards, the Cobalt Blue Tarantula is too small to notice when they poison a guard and they will simply continue their routine instead of killing the tarantula like they do snakes, making them a very stealthy way of poisoning guards without them noticing anything.

Emperor Scorpion[]

  • Ration Name: SCORPION
  • Initial Taste: Very Bad
  • Danger Level: Medium
  • Stamina Recovery: Minimum
  • Capture: Yes

The emperor scorpion (Pandinus imperator) is said to be the largest scorpion in the world. Its venom is a potent neurotoxin, containing imperatoxins (IpTx) and pandinotoxins, and so extreme caution must be exercised as it can easily sting when it feels threatened in their juvenile forms, although it is normally docile upon adulthood. They can be found in the Krasnogorje Mountain Base, Krasnogorje Mountainside, and Krasnogorje Mountaintop Ruins. Unlike using snakes to poison guards, the Emperor Scorpion is too small to notice when they poison a guard and will simply continue their routine instead of killing the scorpion like they do snakes, a trait that the tarantula also possesses.

Kenyan Mangrove Crab[]

  • Ration Name: CRAB
  • Initial Taste: Fairly Tasty
  • Danger Level: Low
  • Stamina Recovery: Moderate
  • Capture: Yes

The Kenyan mangrove crab is a land crab. It lives in burrows dug near seashores and mangrove swamps. It is not poisonous, but might hurt a little if it attacks with its pincers, and should be treated with caution. It can first be found in Chyornaya Peschera Cave Branch and is last found in Tikhogornyj.
