An antidote is a substance that can counteract a specific type of poisoning.
Usage[]
During both the Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater, in August 1964, Naked Snake was equipped with antidotes as part of his survival gear. Spetsnaz forces operating in Tselinoyarsk at this time also utilized antidotes.
During the 1990s, the United States Army's special forces unit FOXHOUND utilized antidotes as part of their equipment to counteract snake and insect venom. In addition, they were usually used together with an electronic micro-suction pump.
In the mid-1990s, the fortress of Outer Heaven stocked antidotes to counteract scorpion venom. During the Outer Heaven Uprising in 1995, FOXHOUND operative Solid Snake procured this antidote with the help of Resistance member Jennifer, and used it as a safeguard when traversing the northern desert.
Behind the scenes[]
The Antidote first appears in Metal Gear and is used to counteract poison that afflicts Snake should he come into contact with the scorpions in Desert 2. It is provided by Jennifer after contacting her by radio at a certain point.
The Antidote reappears in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater as a healing item for use in the Cure menu. The player starts the game with a limited number, but can acquire more by locating either the Baikal Scaly Tooth, or ready-made antidotes in places such as Graniny Gorki or Groznyj Grad. It is used to counteract poisons that Snake has ingested, such as from rotten food, Poison Dart Frogs, Fly Agarics, and Ural Luminescent mushrooms. In real life, catch-all antidotes that can cure anything from poisoning by rotten food to varied flora and fauna does not exist and probably never will due to just how different these poisons are in structure.
Portable Ops featured an ampoule in the Large Medical Kit icon, although it is not clear if it represented Life Medicine or Antidotes, due to both items being represented by ampoules.
