This article is about the real-world product. You may be looking for Men's cologne, which in the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was branded as AXE..

AXE is a brand of men's grooming products owned by the Anglo-Dutch company Unilever, considered the largest manufacturer of consumer goods in the world, and originating in France. It is also known as LYNX in the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, and the People's Republic of China. It was released world wide. It works by applying a light spray of deodorant onto the body that leaves behind a fragrance.

Relation to the Metal Gear series[]

AXE Body Spray, alongside Doritos, Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Bon Curry, and magazines from Weekly Famitsu, Dengeki PlayStation, Dengeki Games, and Weekly Shōnen Magazine were included in the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker as a joke on product placement.[1] In the international versions of the game, AXE Body Spray was replaced by Men's Cologne. In addition, supplemental materials such as a DLC t-shirt advertising AXE was cut from the non-Japanese versions altogether, presumably for the same reason why AXE itself was replaced. On the model viewer, a link to the Japanese AXE effect website was included. Unlike the other product placement items in the game, AXE (as well as its international equivalent) does not have its own in-game model, with it instead reusing the blue ammo box used to contain items such as Mate.

The AXE T-shirt is one of only two in-game passcode-unlockable DLC's where the method of unlocking them does not directly relate to the product they represent, the only other being the Doritos t-shirt. Its passcode is instead distributed by ordering a specific promotional Peace Walker T-shirt.
