AL was an optic-neuro AI created by the Patriots named after the United States' 16th President Abraham Lincoln.

Development[]
Prior to AL's development, a similarly named AI had been created in order to operate the main frame of the Peace Walker unmanned weapon in 1974.
In the early 1970s, Patriot founder Zero (with Donald Anderson's assistance) commissioned the construction of AL as part of an advanced AI network that was designed to govern the world's economic, political, legal, social, and cultural information.

In 2014, AL and the other Patriot AIs (TJ, TR, and JD) were unable to recognize that the repaired GW AI aboard Liquid Ocelot's Outer Haven was used to illegally access the system. Later aboard the warship, a computer virus was uploaded to GW by Solid Snake and Otacon which ultimately spread to AL and the other Patriot AIs, shutting down the Patriots' network altogether.
