Behind the scenes[]
The era of the 2020s is only referenced briefly in the Metal Gear series. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance mentions the 2020 U.S. presidential elections, but in a future tense due to the fact that the game takes place in 2018.
During the Tokyo Game Show 2023, Konami held an exibit to promote the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1. In said exibit some viewers were treated to an official timeline[3] that had events from all mainline Metal Gear games and spin-off titles Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Revengeance . In that timeline the year 2021 could be found that describes the TPNW treaty going into effect.[4][5]
