Just read Gray Fox's page and what a mess. You had an entire section with conjecture to make excuses for Portable Ops retcons of his backstory? Just call it what it is. A retcon.

In a game not written by Kojima and one Kojima barely considers canon and contradicts at every turn.

Why is Portable Ops backstory getting priority over the one written in Metal Gear 2 or even MGS1 handbook? The latter says he was found in Vietnam, not post-war so it could easily fit in with MGSV as well. Why is PO taking priority?

And that is not accounting for the mess PO makes of Philosopher legacy.

If the story of Portable Ops is at all canon, that means Skull Face and XOF may have also helped Gene, Cunningham, Ursula, etc on their missions prior to 1970. Makes me wonder what Skull Face would think of those guys and their rebellion in Colombia.

Do they plan to remake the entire series in chronological order? Or something else? Just curious what y’all think.

Would he be raked as a Legendary soldier like big boss?

Only played sons of liberty, rising, and guns of the patriots, completed all of them though.

And i've made several builds in rising because it's my fav MG game

I saw someone else talk about this and thought it was cool. I’ll do this in bullet-point form:

• Big Boss and Venom Snake initially continued working together from a distance after MGSV, but to help sell the deception of being BB’s body-double (in the event he’d need to assume that identity again, which he would in MG1,) he enlists Dr. Madnar to undergo an experimental surgery using robots and nanomachine injections to finally remove the shrapnel horn without causing a brain hemorrhage. By the power of “NANOMACHINES SON!”, it works.

Pictured below: Supposedly extracted from MGSV’s files: an aged Venom Snake without the horn. You can faintly see a scar where the horn would be.

• However, the nanomachines are experimental, with side-effects not being immediately clear. They end up damaging Venom Snake’s psyche and kinda make him go insane. He becomes ruthless and sadistic, embracing his reputation as a “demon.” He begins acting erratically, and not in line with Big Boss’ plans. This begins to sour their relationship.

• Operation Intrude N313 would be the climax of the wedge driven between Venom and BB. It would be BB sending Solid Snake to basically assassinate Venom so that then BB could take over Outer Heaven for himself. However, Solid “goes too far” by discovering the existence of Metal Gear and their plans to use it against the United States in order to take down Cipher/The Patriots. Venom does one last “F you” to BB by pretending to be him when confronting Solid, in order to destroy his reputation. With Outer Heaven and Metal Gear destroyed, the real Big Boss is forced to secretly start over in Zanzibar Land/Tselinoyarsk.

Most of the series has some sort of theme that’s summarized by a single word (MGS1: GENE. MGS2: MEME. MGS3: SCENE. MGS4: SENSE. MGSPW: PEACE. MGSV: RACE, REVENGE.) Now I’m curious about the other canonical games that don’t have one yet.

For those needing a refresher on MG1’s overall plot:

With the most recent lore (including retcons) in mind, MG1 is about the Outer Heaven Uprising, where Venom Snake, masquerading as Big Boss, launches an insurrection to free the world from Patriots control with the use of Metal Gear. The big plot-twist of the game is finding out Big Boss is “somehow” leading both FOXHOUND and Outer Heaven at the same time.

Mostly just asking out of curiosity. I assume she might have the most positive opinion of Solid just since he seemed to have the best understanding of her will, but curious what y’all think.
