Rising is canon but I highly recommend you start with either MGS1 or Snake Eater. It’s sorta similar how folks approach Star Wars watching. Either start with the original, or start with the beginning of the canon. Either way enjoy! You’re about to experience one of the great gaming series.

That would be badass! I actually had the idea for a WW2 MGS game. My idea is you’d play as the Snake of the Cobra unit and he would’ve died at the end, revealing John/jack was his son hence the Boss taking an interest in him. It would also be the reason why Boss wore the bandana in Snake Eater, to remember the one cobra who didn’t make it. But Wundertruppen… that has so much potential as a boss group in any game let alone Metal Gear.
Venom found out the truth and continued to follow Big Boss. He could’ve walked away. Big Boss is the most tragic because he started out with honor- he was a good soldier who did what he thought was right, as naive as he was. Then to have it all ripped away, almost like having your heart torn out. Everything he believed in was a lie, and he responded accordingly.
Most had goals I truly understand. But Volgin was just such a sadistic piece of shit. Skull Face is a close second though.
I always wondered what he truly thought of them given that he allowed Venom to take control in his literal place. Did he miss Kaz? Think about Chico and Amanda? I mean we know how he felt about the OG support team(Zero, Para-Medic, Sigint) but the Peace Walker/Phantom Pain crew? He seemed to really respect them.

More like when he was doing his thing while we were doing ours in Afghanistan and Angola- I just wonder what he may have thought.
And it’s so sad how Zero, Para-Medic, and Sigint were the ones that started it all. Even though they all had the best intentions. Makes you think.

Depends on the task at hand, the layout of the base, number of enemies. I definitely try to recon with my binocs and mark as many enemies as I can, maybe listen to some conversations.
